Barguna Road Accident, Mourning the Loss of Mosaddeka Begum in Amtali Road Tragedy

Mosaddeka Begum Obituary, Death – In a devastating turn of events, Mosaddeka Begum, a new mother from Kalapara, Patuakhali, tragically lost her life in a head-on collision in Amtali, Barguna, just two days after giving birth. She was only 24 years old.

The accident happened on Friday afternoon near Keowabunia Secondary School. The auto-rickshaw carrying Mosaddeka, her husband, infant daughter, and relatives was struck violently by a speeding Kuakata-bound bus. The impact was so severe that three people were killed on the spot or shortly after: Mosaddeka, her father Azizul Haque, and her mother-in-law Khaleda Begum.

The newborn child, barely 48 hours old, was also injured in the crash, as was the rickshaw driver and Mosaddeka’s husband, Zahidul Islam, who later spoke through tears from his hospital bed:

“We were going for a routine check-up for our baby. That bus destroyed everything. My wife is gone. My parents are gone.”

Mosaddeka’s untimely death leaves behind a grieving husband and a daughter who will grow up without her mother. Her community in Baloibunia is still in shock — a young woman so full of promise, taken so brutally.

The accident is yet another example of reckless driving on Bangladesh’s highways, especially the Patuakhali-Kuakata corridor, which has seen multiple such tragedies in recent years. Police have seized the bus involved, but the driver and his assistant fled the scene, highlighting the accountability crisis in road safety enforcement.

Mosaddeka’s life should be remembered not only in mourning but as a symbol of the thousands of innocent victims of road negligence. She was a mother, a daughter, a wife, and a light to those around her.

In her memory, may we strive for roads where no more dreams are crushed, and no more mothers are lost too soon.
